What changes would you like to see next year?

Post  Lucielle on Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:14 am

Have read a lot of suggestions on this forum of changes people would like to see to improve the show. If, as someone has suggested, that the BBC actually look at comments on here, then they may pick up on some of them.

Here are a couple of changes I would like to see:

Back to Saturday night for the whole show. Having the results show televised on Saturday, aired on Sunday causes problems, not least keeping the results a secret. It is naïve to think that the results will not leak out. In addition, the BBC look rather silly pretending that it is a fresh show on Sunday when the whole world knows it isn't.

We have an additional panellist, if Alesha is to continue. A female professional to give constructive comments and expert advice on the technicalities of dance, particularly to female contestants.

Totally agree with you Lucielle on the results show, the 'make-believe' Sunday show just seems daft imo, and the format has been very lame.

Some other ideas (several of these have been suggested by other posters on different threads):

No props, other than a specific prop night

Clear rules about lifts etc. from the outset

Prefer it if the audience didn't / weren't encouraged to clap along to music, boo judges, do standing ovations etc at every occasion

All couples do one of two set dances each week, rather than the multi-dance weeks

More traditional music, especially to the latin dances

Though I don't mind him, I do think it's time for B ruce to retire

If there's guest singers....accompanying dancers please

Personally, I'd prefer the dance-off back, though appreciate the arguments against it

One Saturday show.
Clear rules that are consistantly applied, especially lifts and tricks.
One 'props' week.
One movie or theme week.
no eliminations until everyone has danced one latin and one ballroom
Alternate ballroom with latin
Just have 2 styles of dance to make it easier to compare and contrast
Marks for artistic impression and technique
A dance judge specialising in Latin
More professional dancing time
Introduce the singers by name (it's only good manners) Much as I like Dave Arch, I don't need to keep seeing only his face when the band is introduced.
Save the Argentine Tango until the later stages of the contest. It was absolutely mauled this year and Vin cent and Fl avia should keep their flagship spot.
Shoot the steadycam man (just with a tranquiliser dart) He was really anoying me over the past two weeks.
Introduce 2 dance week earlier. This year they've gone from one dance to 3 then 4 at a ridiculous pace.
Christmas special - I'm not sure how that will pan out yet.
More professional dancing. Most of them were sitting in the audience this week.
Forget the dance troupe, it's not working.
If Br uce stays, please find him some new jokes before he raids this years Christmas crackers.
If T ess stays (is she pregnant?) please buy her a dress with two shoulders and long enough to hide those knees. Does T ess watch any of her own VT? In the name of mercey, those T ess pit inane questions have got to stop. It's viewer abuse.

Less fillers on ITT. More time for dancers or at least one session for the singers. Not interested in Cl audia talking to relatives/floggers of books/DVD's etc.
Keep a Pro challenge. Why were all the Pro's hopping on one leg to do the floor piano challenge?
Lose The Love God that is Leonard The Lion Goodman's clinic.
Keep choerography corner (don't mind which Pro does it)
Keep through the keyhole clips of the Pro's abodes from time to time.
If the costumes are discussed can we have someone who knows something about them giving their opinion. Don't mind Ben de Lisi.

Rant over - I think Rolling Eyes

I was going to make my own list - but it's very similar to B4p's!!

One or two additions :

Decent music, especially for the Tango and AT

ITT is very busy during the first few weeks since there are so many couples to interview. But why can't we meet the singers or somebody else from the band? Fillers on ITT in the past have included a lighting guy and a 'runner' - both much more interesting than Jared wanting to be a spy!

There should be an hour long ITT after the final - after all there will be three couples who do not get a chance to say how they feel after the event.

Discourage the audience from giving a standing ovation if anybody so much a breathes. Kept for something special it is meaningful, given to everything it is just false. And stop Brucie from saying 'look at them, just look at them'!

With so many different dances every week it's very difficult to work out who's done what - so stick to two each week. And no, we won't get bored with watching 6 waltzs interspersed with 6 salsas - we would probably find it easier! (Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they do it like this for the first few series?)

Forget the Show Dance Troupe - it didn't work.

Bring Ian back as a regular professional!!

Fairer scoring - there's no need for Alesha to 'compensate' for C.raig.

Sorry about the long list - especially since I started off by agreeing with practically everything B4p said!!!!

Agree with all those in bold and would add: -

Stick to the Basic 10 dances until the last 4 weeks. Don't mind the mixing up of the dances as it could be dreary otherwise, but dances like the Charleston & AT should be saved for the later stages when the less able dancers have gone.

Bin the introduction week - seemed like it was set up simply because of AW.

They've been said before by others too but here's my list

One Saturday show with a results slot after the lottery/Casualty

Clear rules (lifts etc) which are applied!

Keep a movie week and add a new theme eg in the style of a particular decade (40's 60's etc...)

No eliminations until everyone has danced one latin and one ballroom

Marks for artistic impression and technique as in figure skating

A dance judge specialising in Latin (possibly instead of B runo!)

More professional dancing time - with regualrs not a special troup who are never mentioned by name after the first week

Get rid of Brucie especially with all those terrible jokes, fluffs and that awful shuffle routine of his

Introduce 2 dance week earlier. At least by 1/4 finals or maybe at Blackpool around week 8

Forget the introduction week

Bring back Matthew Cutler.

If that happened I would forsake any other changes apart from getting rid of the embryo from USA.

Ensure the rules re lifts are crytal.

Two dances per contestant at the quarter final stage.

Get rid of Silver tongued Italian Stallion (he's seriously annoying me)

Get rid of the Professional Dance Troupe.

More Professional dances.

Have one long show per week. Excepting maybe semi finals.

I'm agreed with most things that have been listed by most of you so I will just list the things that I am MOST concerned about:

Results on a Saturday
One ballroom/one latin only each week - makes it a lot easier to compare people and is less frenetic. They used to do it so they can do it again
Lifts rules clear from the outset and judges mark accordingly and unanimously. Only CRH has been consistent on that - L.en turned a blind eye to a lift the very week after he said they wouldn't be tolerated...... Shocked
Props kept to one week
one themed week
Existing pro dancers to do the entertainment dances
Get rid of the Pro Dance Troupe
At least one Group dance per series for the celebs (missing this year)
Dances to accompany the guest singers
2 dances to be bought in by quarter finals
Get rid of the awful Swingathon.
Bring back the sweetest of lillies who did ever walk this earth , Matthew and Ian.

More cricketers. This series has been strangely flat without a cricketer.

Have we had a female swimmer? Someone like Sharon Davies. What about a runner, now they should have lots of energy. A male polo player? Someone from a winter sport?

Agree with much of what's been said, so will just add what I think is most important.

One longer, show on a Saturday night or bring back the dance off if they insist on having a separate results show on a Sunday. I don't care which, but the Sunday show lacked content and was a mess.

Two dances (one Latin, one Ballroom) per week please! Start the two dances per couple earlier - quarter final at least.

Stick to the ten dances until the later stages - watching A nn W do a Charleston was just painful.

Lose the pro dance troupe and make more use of the pro dancers.

Add another judge to the panel who knows about dancing (Latin specialist would be good) and who doesn't do "bland" or erupt into orgasms all over the place.

Laughing Good points, Tina.

Just to let people know, I thought I would send the list of suggestions to the BBC, after the finals, so they know what we would like to see next year. It will be interesting to see if they adopt any of them. My feeling is that, hopefully, they are picking up points from this forum, but to contact them directly can't do any harm.

Thing is, us outsiders don't know what motivates them in planning the show, we can only guess at that! Anyway, do keep adding your suggestions. Very Happy

Less standing ovations. They have become meaningless. They should be reserved for truly exceptional performances (and I'm not just talking about Strictly couples here, I'm also speaking of the pro dances and guest singers).

Forget the whole 'being under the red spotlight' during the results show. Just read out all the results in one go so the tension builds and isn't broken as in series 1-4.

And I don't want to see couples interacting with the judges during their routines again. Kissing the judges. wiggling ones chest/bum at them, sitting/standing/lying on their desk has all been done to death now.
