Using the Quote button

Post  133-230-44039-18180-800 on Wed Sep 22, 2010 5:27 pm

Just a little hint / tip.

On this board using the quote button does not, as it does on many boards, just quote the new text in the post you wish to quote from, but the entire post. If that's done several times we end up with posts that contain the whole thread and are absurdly long. if you could try to edit them down a bit it would be much appreciated.

Agree. The thing to remember is the first [Quote ] followed by the [ /Quote] at the end. Many of the comments and quote tags between can be removed as wished to avoid multi quoting. geek

Yes of course - thank you for adding that.

Just makes a thread hard to follow is all.

Normal quoting means there are my comments and your comments nested.

This is how a single quote looks where I have deleted my bit.

Here it shows what I deleted in bold

You have to keep one [quote= "a-n-other" ] and the words that person typed followed by [ /quote] at the end.

So if it is just a plain post you want to quote you don't need to do anything. It is only if the person you are quoting has quoted someone else (resulting in nested quotes) it helps to fiddle.

When you click on the Quote button you will see the text from the message you are replying to, interspersed with [ quote="nameofposter"] text of message [ /quote]

There will be several of these quotes potentially. What you need to to is delete everything apart from the text you need to keep and the first and last quotes.

I've inserted a space in the quote so that it shows.

You can also simply reply to the message, but cut and paste the text you want to quote from into your message, highlight it in the new message and click on the icon of two speech bubbles under the title space.
